Rwanda Crime Report System powered by Cardano Blockchain technology
Team Reflection Summary
Through exploring our community, our team experienced a major shift in understanding. Initially, we thought the main issue was slow reporting but we discovered something deeper: people do not trust the systems meant to protect them. Fear of retaliation, lack of transparency, and the possibility of evidence tampering make citizens hesitant to report crimes through formal channels.
We were surprised by how many people rely on Twitter , TikTok, WhatsApp, and social media as alternative reporting tools because they feel safer and believe these platforms provide visibility that local authorities may not. It was eye-opening to learn that some issues, like cannabis use in Rusizi or violence from foreign visitors at Kicukiro Niboyi, remained unnoticed by officials for months or even years until citizens publicly posted evidence online. What moved us most were the personal stories of moto drivers(Pacifique), bus drivers , shop owners(Alaine) , and Students(Umwali Gloria , MAURICE, Janah NSIMME from UNILAK who feel unprotected when facing crime. Their desire is not only for safety but for fairness and accountability. They want a system where their contribution matters and cannot be erased by corruption or human bias.
From these insights, it is clear the community is asking for a transparent, secure, and trustworthy reporting mechanism. People want a tool that protects them, provides real-time emergency support, and ensures that once evidence is submitted, it cannot be altered or ignored. This understanding guides our commitment to building a solution rooted in justice, safety, and the voices of the people.
